105 Year Anniversary of HOG's: Motorcycles Rumble Into Wisconsin

Harley Davidson celebrated their 105th Anniversary in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and thousands of riders rumbled into Beer City to join the party.

Harley Davidson motorcycles rumbled into Milwaukee from around the United States on the last weekend of August, 2008 for the Harley Homecoming 105th Anniversary. Milwaukee put out the welcome mat for the influx of powerful motorcycles who took the ride home.

Harley celebrated their landmark anniversary in a big way, with streets roped off for music, a Harley Parade and a Bruce Springsteen Concert on the Milwaukee Lakefront by the Summerfest Grounds.

Harley Davidson Fundrasing Raises $6.7 Million for (Muscular Dystrophy Association) MDA

According to information released by Harley-Davidson, the 105th Anniversary fund raising effort for the Muscular Dystrophy Association reached $6.7 million, surpassing the original goal of $6 million. The 2008 total brings the 28 year cumulative figure for MDA fund raising to over $71 million, The announcement was made during the anniversary celebration in Milwaukee.

Harley-Davidson fund raising activities for MDA took place throughout the year and culminated with the 105th Anniversary Homecoming.

Harley Davidson 105 Years Old

Harley originated in Milwaukee in a 10 x 15 foot shed with the words "Harley-Davidson Motor Company" scrawled crudely on the door. this rough factory was operated by William S. Harley and Arthur Davidson. The first motorcycle made available to the public was a racer. In 1906 a factory was built on Chestnut Street, later renamed Juneau Avenue. The staff size increased to six full time employees.

According to information on the Harley-Davidson website, the company, which is still headquartered in Milwaukee, now has over 9,700 employees worldwide. Harley maintains facilities throughout the United States.

Harley Davidson Museum

The new Harley Museum was opened on July 12, 2008. Located on 20 acres in downtown Milwaukee, the museum brings the H-D passion alive through exhibits and events that celebrate the people, products culture and history of this iconic company. H.O.G. Riders in Milwaukee for the 105th Anniversary Party

The sight of thousands of HOG's on the streets of "Beer City" is something that has to be seen to be believed. The HOG's lined the streets, parked near the gatherings of riders who were gathered on the streets around the bars and roped off streets where music was playing.

Harley's gathered around the lake front, near the Milwaukee Art Museum, for the Bruce Springsteen Concert that would take place later in the evening. The crowds appeared orderly, but there was a visible police presence on the streets of Milwaukee for the festival.
